'Transposed & Illuminated', Pictura, Dordrecht, The Netherlands
In the series "1:een" (1: one), four times a year Pictura invites an artist to curate an exhibition. This time Frank van der Salm was invited and he in his turn invited: Wim van Egmond, Joost Rekveld, Esma Moukhtar, Willem Besselink, Wim Bosch, Martin Effert and Martijn van den Berg to take part in this exhibition.
"In this exhibition artists are gathered who, totally in their own way, take a position towards 'the reality of presentation'. The human being is in focus, but doesn't get shown in all its peculiarities, rather as the decider of zeros and ones."
In my work I observed the two exhibition spaces for the first five days of the exhibition with the help of webcams. These webcams automatically made a photo of the spaces in five minutes intervals. In these photos the position of the visitors to the exhibition in the space was clearly visible.
In the first exhibition space I mapped these positions with a coloured LED-light in the floor. One LED for every person, everyday a different coloured LED, five different colours.
In the second exhibition space I didn't map the positions directly onto the floor, but suspended a scale model of the floor between four metal wires, that were suspended between floor and ceiling. The positions again mapped with the same coloured LEDs as in the first space.
Everyday another scale model was added, suspended a bit higher then the one of he previous day. Five 'floors' of scalemodels, each filled with different coloured LEDs, were in the end suspended between the metal wire, adding up to a five-storied high building.
