'5 years de Aanschouw', De Aanschouw, Rotterdam, The Netherlands
Gallery de Aanschouw, the smallest gallery in Rotterdam celebrated its 5 years excistence. To do so the curator invited 40 artists and curators from Rotterdam to make an exhibition.
Business as usual: a one week exhibition in the 140 x 80 x 30 cm sized glass vitrine at the facade of a cafe.
But this time all of the 40 invited artsist and curators got a key of the vitrine and were asked to add artworks, or rearrange them. They were allowed to do this any time within this week, in the morning, at night or during dinner.
I was also invited and thus also got a key.
On friday afternoon, a couple of hours before the week ended and the vitrine would be emptied I made a piece right on the glass of the vitrine.
I registered the passers by that walked the pavement in front of the gallery. For each person that passed from left to right I sticked a line of black adhesive tape on the window, for each person that walked in opposite direction I sticked a yellow line of tape.
I started at the bottom and slowly worked upward to the top of the window.
Because any of the 40 people had the right to change the setting of the exhibited works, after a couple of hours my work was already changed and intergrated in the total show.
