Raumcommander, the organizers of the group-exhibition 'Polysphre' asked the 12 paticipating artists to show work concerning the theme: big-city.

When I think of a big city I always think of the uncountable possibilities it offers. especially when it comes to moving around a city, the vast infrastructures gives you so much possibilities to choose from. But in fact it also limits you in the way an infrastructure always leads you to your destination.
In This installation I wanted to show the way an infrastructure, even if its possibilities seem countless, will in the end influence your route.

For 'RePositionen' I picked the exhibition space with the most entrances and exits as possible.
I filled the space with styrofoam plates of 50 x 50 x 5 cm. Piled up to five tiles high. covered with a MDF board.
As soon as the exhibition opened the visitors walked over the piles and I noted down the routes they took through the space.
After an hour of registering I started to move around the tiles: I elavated the piles on whoch a lot of people walked, I lowered the piles on which no or a few people walked.
The floor altered into a relief.
Again people walked over the floor, already slightly influenced in picking their route by the elavated tiles. The most obvious routes were most popular and therfore elevated the most.
Again an hour of registering routes, and altering the floor according to the amount of people that walked over the certain piles.
The relief changed again, influenced by the visitors, and after that the visitors were influenced by the relief.
